July 7, 1959 by State Legislation under the California Water Code.

Our Mission:

To provide the residential and agricultural customers in the Santa Ynez River Water Conservation District, Improvement District No. 1 service area with reasonably priced, reliable, high quality water supply, and efficient and economical public services.

Service Area:

Covers about 10,850 acres including the communities of Santa Ynez, Los Olivos, Ballard and incorporated area of the City of Solvang.

Population Served:

7,022 not inclusive of the City of Solvang.

Budget:

Average Annual Budget, $10 million (not including City of Solvang State Water Passthrough payment).

Staffing:

20 Approved FTE Positions

Reservoirs:

Two Reservoirs and two tanks, with a combined capacity 16.75 Million Gallons.

Sources of Water Supply:

Santa Ynez Uplands Groundwater Basin, Santa Ynez River Alluvium, State Water Project, The United States of America Bureau of Reclamation – Cachuma Project

Distribution System:

Over 86.7 miles of water lines and five (5) booster stations with three (3) water pressure zones.

The Water District collects and analyzes water quality samples on a weekly basis at four locations.
